Social Review of About.Me: Create An Online Landing Page – Just Like a Virtual Business Card
Posted by KatieSoo
At first glance, I thought to myself “Ugh, not another social network profile!” But after checking out the site a bit, I realized it’s much simpler than that. There isn’t any content that needs to be updated or added in, no upkeep required…all it needs is a background photo, tiny bio and some links to your social networking sites. It’s not another online social networking profile I’ll need to keep track of, and the great thing about it is that its something you can easily create and forget about…here’s mine!
Overall, it seems like a page better suited as a resume or virtual business card, something you can add to the bottom of your signature in emails and not think about – EVER. For those like me who already have a webpage (you’re on it right now! ) I’m not sure if it’ll add more value, and it may even appear redundant.
When creating social presences, the objective is to drive traffic to one source and either market or show the visitor something you want to be known in the social space for. If you can ultimately leverage About.Me as a social tool, pointing back to a page or link you want people to see, then go for it. If not, you’ll have to think about whether or not you want another social presence floating out there…

Interesting tidbit – AOL acquired About.Me back in 2010. Do you think this was a good purchase…or will it be a flop? Would you get an About.Me page?
